The fundamentals of academic referencing go beyond just crediting sources – they serve to build a framework of credibility and enable deeper academic discourse. During my examination of Friedman’s principles alongside UAL’s guidelines, I found that effective citation requires both technical precision and meaningful engagement with the material you’re working with.
What really resonated with me was that citations were used not just to indicate sources but also as building blocks for an argument. It connected with my current research into how found footage involved viewers in the horror – it’s not enough to simply reference films and theories, I need to demonstrate how they actively inform my analysis.
Through studying these materials, I’ve seen how citations serve multiple crucial functions that go beyond basic academic requirements:
